What is Green? With so many different products which are marketed to be green, it can be difficult for buyers to know how to make the best choices. We encourage customers like you to research independently verifiable standards, to allow you to make well informed and responsible buying decisions about green building products.
At BuildDirect, our commitment to the environment and sustainability begins with a dedication to provide the most current and accurate information available on green building standards to our customers.
We base our green building materials approach on several well-established standards, which are recognized internationally.
1. LEED®. We’re members of USGBC (United States Green Building Council) and CGBC (Canadian Green Building Council). LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a registered trademark of these organizations, fast becoming a universal series of rating systems in the building industry for all kinds of projects. These projects range from residential renovations to large construction. A guide to how many points are required from your overall project under the LEED® system are listed here for each category:

2. NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines. This series of voluntary guidelines has been developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to be a tool kit for individual builders looking to engage in green building practices, and home builder associations (HBAs) looking to launch their own local green building programs. Since their debut in 2005, the Guidelines have helped move environmentally-friendly home building concepts further into the mainstream marketplace. A guide to the minimum point requirements under this system is listed here:
