Whether you’re getting ready to sell your house or you simply want a more updated look, one of the first places you should start is the bathroom. An outdated bathroom can make the entire house feel old and out of date. Luckily, there are many ways you can update your bathroom without getting a second mortgage on the house.

Update your hardware

One of the quickest and easiest ways you can update your bathroom is by putting in new hardware. Do you have drawers and cupboards in your bathroom? Make sure that they have beautiful new handles. The doorknob on your bathroom door could use an update, too.

On top of all of this, check out the faucets on your sink and bathtub. If they’re old and rusted, or just look like they’ve been through several years, you should get new ones. Purchasing new hardware for your bathroom is inexpensive and can make the room feel cleaner and new.

Re-tile and repaint

Another way to update the look of a room is to update the tile surfaces on walls. There are several options when tiling the bathroom, from natural stone, to glass mosaic tile, to porcelain tile. Each choice offers a range of options for color, texture, and overall effect. Each one can produce amazing restorative results to a bathroom that’s been left too long without an update.

However, if you like the walls the way they are, you could also choose to just paint the cupboards and drawers. If there is shelving in the room, you could also add some visual interest using paint here, too. If you paint these peripheral pieces in a complimentary color to the rest of the room, you’ll get an updated look without being unduly out of pocket.

Incorporate accenting accessories

If you have some shelf space in the bathroom consider adding some candles or styled soap to the room. This adds a bit of your personality to the bathroom while updating the look of the room. There are a number of other accents you could add to the bathroom to make it feel more modern.

Consider a bamboo plant, fresh flowers, and even a wall decal, if you have a large, open wall in the room. These accents allow you to quickly and easily change the feel of the room on a whim.

Place Mirrors

You can easily add light and depth to a room by placing mirrors in it. Place a mirror above the sink, and another on the back of the bathroom door. This will make the room feel larger. You can also place other mirrors of varying sizes around the room. Small mirrors in an arrangement on one of the walls works in the place of an art arrangement. This is a great way to add style to an otherwise boring bathroom.

Get past old and boring

As you’re redecorating the bathrooms in your home, there are several things you can do to add your own touch and a modern flair. If your bathroom is old and boring, updating it can help the whole house feel more up to date and ready for guests, to sell, or just to comfortably live in.
