Home improvement doesn’t have to take up a whole weekend. Here are some small and useful projects that take about an hour.

Home improvement projects don’t have to take months, weeks, or even an entire day to finish. There are plenty of projects you can complete that take 60 minutes or less. If you’re looking for a few easy upgrades you can do around your house, keep some of these projects in mind.

1. Install a new light fixture

While many people think changing light fixtures is difficult because you’re dealing with electricity, it’s actually a very simple project that won’t take much time at all. First, turn off the circuit breaker that powers the light you want to change.

Remove the old light fixture, and then install the new light fixture by attaching the white wires and black wires together. Finally, tuck all the wires back into the ceiling and turn the breaker back on to see your new light fixture.

2. Clean up your walkway

Moss, dirt, and grime can quickly accumulate on the walkway leading up to your home. To give your walkway some new life, you can rent a power washer and simply attach it to a hose. Start with the lowest pressure nozzle and go higher only if you don’t see any results. For stubborn dirt or grime, you can also apply detergent to your walkway and let it sit around five minutes before using the power washer to clean it off.

3. Create a raised flowerbed

Whether you want a small garden or a bed of flowers, you can easily create a raised flowerbed for your yard. Take eight pieces of 8-foot-long lumber treated for outdoor use. Cut the lumber to a size that will fit your yard and use screws to attach them together. Line the bottom of the flowerbed with landscape fabric to prevent weeds from growing up through your box. Finally, fill your flowerbed with soil and add your plants.

4. Install a new faucet

Whether you have a leaky faucet or you simply want a new look in your bathroom, replacing an old faucet is an easy and simple fix. First, turn off the water supply to the faucet you want to replace. Then, simply use a wrench to unscrew the connections from the old faucet and screw in the new faucet. As an added bonus, if you add an aerator to your new faucet, you can cut down on water consumption and save some money as well.

5. Change the hardware on your cabinets

You don’t always have to replace your cabinets to get a new look in your kitchen or bathroom. Sometimes, just changing the hardware on your cabinets can give you a completely new style, and it will take you less than an hour to do.

Once you’ve picked out the new hardware you want for your cabinets, you only need a screwdriver to remove the old hardware and install the new pieces. If you’re mounting hardware on doors that have never had any handles, create a template so you can put the holes in the same spot.

Transformation in about an hour — however small!

There are easy ways to transform your living space and give it an upgrade. These do-it-yourself projects are simple ways to improve your home in one hour or less. Even if these aren’t dramatic changes, sometimes it’s the small projects that add up to a lot over time.
