5 Incredible Ways House Cleaning Benefits Your Health
You may think house cleaning is a thankless chore but here are 5 ways it actually benefits your mind, body and spirit!
If you’re anything like me getting motivated to do housework is truly a battle! So what if I told you that doing your housework has benefits you likely never even thought of. So not only will your house sparkle but YOU will too! Let me tell you how.
1. It gets rid of the dirt and grime
Let’s get the obvious out of the way – the main reason anyone cleans their house is to get it clean. You won’t feel good, or want to have guests over, if cobwebs are lining your doorways and dust is piling up on your shelves. Dirt and grime is also a lot harder to clean if you let it pile up.
2. It reduces the amount of germs and allergens in your home
Most of us think of germs as what comes off sick people, or maybe from leftover food rotting on the counter. We are careful to stay away from sneezing friends and we throw out or promptly store leftovers, and believe we are safe. Wrong!
Germs are found everywhere and will be tracked into your home no matter how hard you try not to let them sneak in. These pesky little buggers attach themselves to your clothes and skin, not to mention your pets and shoes, and get into your carpets and oh, pretty much any other surface in your home. Allergens and mites sneak in mostly the same way, so for the sake of the health of your family, clean and disinfect ALL your surfaces and floors on a regular basis.
3. It can keep you fit
You probably already guessed it burns at least some calories to clean because you likely get a bit sweaty and possibly a bit out of breath while dusting or vacuuming for longer than a few minutes. But did you know that the average person burns about 150 calories mopping their floors for 30 minutes! That’s a whole serving of potato chips! This info kinda makes you actually want to clean up right?!
Incorporating extra movements like squats and lunges while doing dishes or vacuuming can make housecleaning actually do double duty as a complete exercise program. Saving you time AND gym membership fees!
4. It lowers your stress levels and improves your mood
This one is a double whammy as well! Exercise is proven to lower your stress levels so cleaning up vigorously will make you feel better in as little as 15 minutes – same deal as if you had gone for a walk, but you actually get something accomplished.
Being in a clutter-free environment actually improves your energy and concentration – so your whole family’s stress levels will remain lower!
5. It helps you keep control of your anger
Have you ever gotten so angry you just want to punch something? We’ve all been there! Next time just grab your sponge and scrub away instead! Putting your energy into something productive, like cleaning, helps you work out any anger and frustration while providing a nice distraction.
Plus when you’re done you can’t help but smile at the great cleaning job you’ve done, and as I mentioned above – your mood and stress levels will change due to your clean house.
