As discussed in a previous post, Hardwood Floor finish – Scratching the Surface, all hardwood floors can be potentially scratched, regardless of either the strength of species or finish. Here are a few tips on how to fix scratches and gauges on hardwood flooring.
For scratches and minor gauges, you’ll want to use what’s called a putty stick. Mohawk Fil-Stick Putty Sticks are a good bet. You’ll want to choose a color that best matches the particular board that needs filling. Simply clean and color in the area, and remove with a dry cloth.
For addressing larger areas, you may need to buff out the scratches with a steel wool or progressively thinner sand paper. You may consider consulting a proffessional in this case.
