Reading Time: 1 minuteTravertine originates in many different regions of the world. Travertine deposits are most common in Turkey, Iran, Italy, Mexico and Peru. Stone from the different regions often has slightly different characteristics and coloration due to the differing geology in the regions. You may see travertine available from other countries such as China as well.
Travertine from China is generally exported in block format from Turkey and manufactured in China taking advantage of the extensive and inexpensive labor force. Into the US market there is also an increasing amount of Mexican travertine, due mostly to its relative proximity, and as a result its decreased lead times and shipping costs Italy and Turkey are the most prominent exporters of travertine globally.
