The garage is the perfect place to store your items that don’t belong in the house. You can put your tools in there that might be greasy or dirty. A work bench can go in there to have a place for you to do all your projects. Extra items can be stored, such as a refrigerator that might be used for meat storage. Any outdoor gear, such as bicycles, children’s toys, and gardening tools can also be kept in the garage. You’ll be outside much more in the summer, so these are the must-have items you’ll want in your garage.

Bike Rack

Bikes take up a lot of space in the house and they’re full of dirt. If you have a family that has multiple bikes, the easiest way to store them is to install a bike rack. This will keep the bikes out of the way until you need to bring them down. While you can buy a bike rack, it’s very easy to make your own. You’ll need to buy heavy duty hooks, find the location of the ceiling joist in your garage, and drill a hole just a little smaller than the threads on the hook.

Workbench

Work Bench

A workbench is one of the most common items you’ll find in a garage. This allows people to work on projects that are too noisy or messy for indoors. There are a variety of workbenches you can buy at your local hardware store. When deciding which one to get, think about how much storage you’ll need. If you don’t have a tool chest, you might want a few drawers in the workbench to store these items. Some people also like drawers so they can grab tools quickly when they’re working on a project.

You can also make your own workbench if you have the time. Take two medium-density fiberboard planks or a solid-core door and put them on top of two sawhorses. This will create a basic bench for you to do your projects on. If you want something more complex, you can make a bench made of 2 x 4s or even 4 x 4s. Many stores have these pre-cut so you just need to put them together once you get home. If you want to add any drawers, you can measure out the size before you head to the store.

A tool chest is an invaluable item in your garage. It’s likely you have many tools and will continue to build up your collection over the years. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to find a tool when you need it. A tool chest will keep your tools neatly organized. You can arrange them in sections, such as placing all your hammer in one drawer, your wrenches in another, and screwdrivers in a separate drawer. This way you’ll always know where your tools are and don’t need to search the garage each time.

What type of tool chest to get will depend on how many tools you have. If you only have a small amount, you can get away with buying a smaller tool chest. Think about the future and if you’ll be buying more, in which case you’ll want a larger one. Those who have hundreds of tools will want a tool chest with at least six drawers. What setting you’re using it will depend on the type as well. You can get one that rolls if you’ll need to transport it across the garage often.

Refrigerator

Many people love having extra space in their garage to keep a spare refrigerator and freezer. There are many reasons for this. Perhaps you hunt often and have extra meat you need to be stored for the future. Your regular refrigerator in your kitchen is likely already full of your weekly groceries. This will allow you to keep your meat ready for months down the road when you want to eat it. Some people entertain often and need space to keep their food cold until their guests come over later. An extra fridge will give you plenty of space.

When buying a new fridge, think about how much food you’ll be storing in it. There are many small refrigerators or freezers you can purchase that don’t take up much space at all. They can go in the corner of your garage, so you’ll have room for other items in the garage. If you think you’ll be storing large amounts of food in there, you’ll want to invest in a full-size refrigerator with a freezer. Whether you’re storing meat or food for a party, you won’t worry about running out of space.

Gardening Tools

People love to work on their garden in the summer. This involves many tools which can take up space, however. You can easily organize your tools so they’re readily available. All you need is a sturdy backboard that you can put on a shelf. You can then install hooks to hang up your tools on. You’ll easily be able to grab which ones you need when you need them. Another solution is having several baskets you can put on a shelf. You can put your tools in them and even bring the basket with you to the garden.

You may also have larger items for gardening, such as a wheelbarrow or pots. To save space, put the wheelbarrow in the corner of your garage and store any other items in it. This will organize them nicely until you need to use them.

When you’re organizing your garage this summer, think about the items you’ll be using the most. Making it easy to access them is key. You don’t want to be searching for hours for one tool you need for a project. You also don’t want to be tripping on your items every time you walk in your garage. Organizing them into their own section will make it easy to find and make you more likely to spend more time in the garage.
