Questions before you order
What's the difference between handscraped and distressed?
Handscraped boards are worked with tools to leave long, shallow scallops across the face, so the surface undulates under your hand. Distressed boards add deliberate marks — dents, knots, wormholes, saw marks — for an aged look. Many lines here do both, and the product page names the finish on each.
Does a textured floor hide scratches and pet wear?
It makes normal wear less conspicuous, because a new mark lands on a surface that already has variation. No wood floor is scratch-proof, and we don't describe any floor as pet-proof. If pets are the main concern, tell your expert; species, gloss level and wear layer all matter more than texture alone.
Is this actually real wood?
Yes. Every floor on this page has a genuine hardwood surface bonded to an engineered core. The texture is worked into real wood, not pressed into a print.
Will the scraping pattern repeat across the floor?
Hand-finished boards vary from plank to plank, which is the point. Your expert will advise on how much overage to order so the installer has enough variety to mix.
What is a wear layer, and how much do I need?
It's the thickness of real hardwood above the core. More wear layer means more life in the floor. Your flooring expert will tell you what your rooms actually call for — thicker is not automatically the right buy.
Are the samples really free?
Yes. You can choose five samples at no cost, and they ship 2nd day air.
What happens after I order samples?
We assign you a flooring expert. They'll get in touch to help you compare what you received, work out quantities, and put together a complete quote covering the floor, the trims and delivery. There's no obligation to order.
Can I get more than five samples?
Five is the free allowance. Your expert can arrange more, and larger XL samples are available to buy on several of these lines if you want to see a bigger piece before you commit.
